The Normal Values of Serum Uric Acid in Korean and Clinical Study on Gout

Abstract
|
|
|
The normal values of serum uric acid in 943 healthy Korean were measured and 17 cases of primary gout were clinically analyzed to clarify certain characteristics among Korean. The results were as follow;
1) The mean value of- serum uric acid measured in healthy Korean were 5.30¡¾0.42 mg% in male and 4.23¡¾0.15 mg% in female and the value of male was about 1mg% higher than that of female.
2) All 17 gouty patients were male and the peak age of onset was fifth decade (range 36-75).
3)The levels of serum uric acid were 7-9 mg% in half cases (range 5.2-14.8mg%)
4) The most common involved joint was the metatarso-pharyngeal joint of the great toe(82%) and next as sites were ankle joints, small joints, knee joints and wrist joints. The polyarthritis was noted in 11 cases (65%).
5} The tophi on the helix of ear and bone were found in 4 cases (24%).
6) The associated disorders were hypertension (9 cases, 58%), obesity (8 cases, 48%), diabetes mellitus (2 cases), old myocardial infarction (1 cases), urolithiasis (1 cases) and peptic ulcer (1 cases).
